Sessions and Workspaces

Released (v0.17.0)Available in stable release v0.17.0.

NMSh sessions are built to survive window closures, network drops, and terminal emulator crashes.

Under the hood, NMSh runs your shell in a small background service (nmshd). When you close a terminal window, the shell detaches instead of dying.

If a command is running (e.g., a build script, a dev server, or a long copy), it continues executing.

When you open a new terminal window, NMSh’s startup prompt allows you to choose an existing live session to reattach to, or start a new one.

  • /resume: Opens the session viewer. LIVE sessions are listed at the top, above ARCHIVED transcripts. You can see what each live session is doing (the running command, elapsed time, etc.).
  • nmsh --attach <id>: Attach directly from the command line.

When you reattach, any output that was printed while the session was detached is safely spooled and appended to your transcript.

If a detached session was running an interactive UI (like an editor, Claude Code, or a pager), NMSh correctly restores the terminal modes (including mouse reporting and bracketed paste) when you reattach, handing control back to the application seamlessly.
