Transcripts and Workflows

Released (v0.17.0)Available in stable release v0.17.0.

The transcript is the scrollable record of your past commands and their output. NMSh structures this output to make it more readable and useful.

Each command in the transcript is a discrete block. It contains:

  • The command you typed.
  • The prompt snapshot at the time of execution.
  • The output of the command.
  • Status (success or failure) and execution timing.

Configured via Config → Output folding (Smart, Always, or Never).

  • Smart (Default): Folds long, low-information output (like build chatter or progress rewrites) but keeps errors, diagnostics, diffs, and failures expanded.
  • Always: Folds all long blocks, keeping only the head and tail visible.
  • Never: Disables folding.

A folded block displays a summary like › N lines hidden · Ctrl+O and can be expanded at any time.

You can search and filter the transcript to find past output quickly:

  • /find: Search the transcript for specific text.
  • /filter: Filter the transcript to show only matching lines. This is presentation only; the underlying stored output is unchanged.

Because NMSh manages the output, copying text from the transcript is clean. Terminal escape sequences, bidi formatting, and NMSh UI chrome are stripped out, giving you pure text.

Unreleased (Development)Implemented on the development branch, not yet published in a stable release.Issue #358

Copy Selection and Copy Modes: Enhanced copy workflows (including plain-text /copy) and Smart Folding refinements are currently in development.

While scrolling through long output, the command that generated the output stays pinned as a one-row header at the top of the viewport. Clicking it jumps you back to the real header.
